A Giant Rubber Duckie!

Hello beautiful readers! Posting today to share with you a super special day spent with my sisters in Sydney City! This day was super special because my sisters and I get very few opportunities to spend time with just us. Our busy lives + distance living apart + shift work + 3 beautiful angels that are my sister Genevieve's kids = not a lot of strictly "Girl time", ya feel me?

Anyway, somehow the stars aligned and it just so happened that we had a WHOLE afternoon/evening of time to burn and soak up each others time that we all miss so much when life gets in the way. We decided to get out of West Sydney and head to Darling Harbour to see the Giant Rubber Duck Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman created. It featured on the harbour to celebrate the opening of the 2013 Sydney Festival ! Also, we were super hungry and wanted delicious city food to satisfy our tastebuds so yes off we went!

It was SERRRRRRRRRRRRR hot! Can you tell? To try and keep cool and covered (so I wouldn't get scorched) I wore my I heart NY white tee teamed with this floral, thrifted, full circle skirt. I needed something bright to pair with my basic tee. Converse on the feet for comfort as always, a plain gold chain, some big shades and there you have it...my OOTD.

After wandering around the harbour soaking in the coolness of this big as duck and the 5000 bubble blower's bubbles that were floating around we jumped on the monorail and headed towards China Town, first stop Paddy's Markets. It was the second time to visit Paddy's and I must say from the tiny amount of time we were there there wasn't a whole lot that caught my eye in the way of fashion and accessories however the international food court...YUM! haha. After this we headed to Bangkok Thai Restaurant  right next to Capitol Theatre for food time! We ordered too many dishes and almost finished them all...the soft shell crab with garlic, chilli and shallots was divineeeee!!!
With time getting away from us it was time to jump back on the monorail, find our car park and head back to reality to pick up our kids lol. but not before a quick detour to Strathfield for some deliciousness in a cup at Yogurberry! Frozen yoghurt at its best...if you're in Sydney, GO THERE!

We totally ran into Hayley from Fashion Hayley & Carla from Messy Carla in Paddy's Markets! It was a cool meeting for us...we totally made them miss their elevator ride but they were so nice and had a chat and a few pics with us!

Days like these are forever encased in my heart! I love my sisters with a fierce and fun love and cherish the stolen moments, hours and days just like this. I love that now I can share them with you...

Aussie Curves: SKIRTS!

Hello to all the lovely Aussie Curves ladies and anyone else having a peek at my blog! I hope you have had a weekend that was exactly what you needed whether it be fun, family, friends or just a simple quiet one. My weekend has been busy! We're getting ready to farewell my niece who is heading back to NZ after living with us since July *tear* so the weekend has been jam packed with family, church, cooking (we made a soul food feast of Southern fried chicken, potato salad, slaw, greens and corn bread *droooool* watching The Help the other day brought that on haha), a night out with the girls, everyday errands like grocery shopping and checking out the fresh farmer's markets for vegies and everything else in between.  I'm tired, lol. and all I can say is I'm really glad I had pics ready to roll for this weeks challenge...skirts!!

I looooove skirts! Haven't been much of a pant person for a while but I'm always in skirts or dresses! I got this tube skirt from Kmart at the beginning of the year on sale!! :) I really dig the tribal print and wear this when I'm just running around with stuff to do in town and its a hot day!

I paired my skirt with one of my staple oversized black cotton tops which I also got from Kmart on sale for $5 a while back! I love the tube style skirt as I usually bear my legs because I'm a shorty and wearing 3/4's or maxi's cut my length BUT I still do enjoy a flowing maxi every now and then especially in winter!!

Ball buster...

My sister calls me a ball buster...She does this because I'm the one that is constantly policing things (or telling everyone what to do is what she says lol) that are going on in the house to make sure things don't get left undone. That makes me sound so boring...I'm not though I promise, haha. If you don't know me I love spending most of my time being ridiculous. I get in trouble a lot for making random noises, talking jibberish and making fun out of boring situations. I guess this all comes from being an Early Childhood Teacher. Being dull is such a drag so I'm always making a noise or sparking conversation in the "awkward silence". This is me MOST of the time but when it comes down to business and things need to get done I become what my sister calls the "enforcer" and just make sure that what needs to be done is done. SO SUE ME...hahaha :)

This brings me to the point that I'm trying to make. My sister calls me the ball buster when it comes to that sort of stuff but something I think she doesn't know is the way she busts my bloody balls when it comes to a part of my life I loooooove but somehow ALWAYS manage to put on the back burner and something she has become quite proficient in keeping regularly on top of...THIS BLOGGING BUSINESS!! LOL. She started a blog a couple of years back (Falala Mele) and its super cool...check out her stuff. Her blog inspired me to start my own and I am yet to get it to a place where I'm happily cruising but I'm getting there...I hope. ANYWAYS, she constantly reminds me & encourages me to put new stuff up on here and I'm constantly forgetting/running out of time/being lazy when the opportunity presents itself so LONG story short I am finally sharing some photos of our (my sis, niece & cuz) last trip to Melbourne City with our lovely ladies.

I looooooove when we get together because we all have such a different, cool and eclectic sense of style that I only really notice when I look back at pics and it just make my insides smile! lol. So this one is for you all but especially for my sister who I thank for the inspiration to share style, fashion, ideas, beauty and confidence.

Aussie Curves: Stee-ripes!!

Another week has come around again and BANG, its time for stripes! YES! I thought this to my self because I have pics ready to roll from my last trip to the US. This is exciting for me because I get to share with you the love of my life thus far...New York City :)

This day: FOURTH OF JULY 2012.


The second 4th of July in a row I got to spend in NYC. Man, when I type it out loud I get butterflies of coolness in my tummy because I think of how lucky I am to be able to say that. We woke up at 4am on this day because this was also the day the final State of Origin game was being televised live in the US. We started  off at the Australian bar where we were greeted, as we jumped frantically out of our cab, by the bar owner shouting "UNLESS YOU HAVE A RESERVATION THERE'S NO ROOM!"

I just think "yep, cool...shoot me now if I have to miss out on the game!" That's when the universe cued the rain. There were other cool dudes with no reservations standing outside so my sister and Ruth grabbed some boxes on the curb to cover their heads with and I took up off  the street looking for any other bar or cafe that may be open with a tv that would let me change the channel! Being NYC I was suuuure something would be open, even at 6am but no. Sadly there was nothing, nothing but rain on my head. SAD LIFE. I make my way back to the "Australian" which was being so UN-Australian by not letting us in, haha, and started watching the game through the window. That's when the universe cued the smashed, dopey Aussie guy who reeked of alcohol and was being a racist, hater to the doorman for not letting him in. COOL.
Now I'm am seriously easy-going and fun. I don't mind when people are on a strange buzz and acting all crazy coz that's their thing but I don't tolerate any sort of racial prejudice. Its such an ugly human trait. So when he started talking to us I was  like "Uh-uh...back up!" Haha, that's when the bouncer started letting us poor peasants in one by one out of the rain...HALLELUJAH!!

The game was a KILLER. NSW lost again :'( but it was super surreal to see the final in New York...winning!

For the remainder of the day we headed off over the Brooklyn Bridge, found Grimaldi's Pizza ( a joint we were meant to find the first time we were in the states but missed out). Talk about YARRRRRRM!! :)  we then checked out the waterfront view around Gumbo before heading back to the hotel to get ready for the Annual African Arts festival in Brooklyn that our dear Trinny sista Gabby was performing at which is a WHOLE other post!

Long story that is still kinda long but I've cut so short...it was  a buzzin' day!

What I wore:

I rocked on with blue on this day as I was waving my NSW flag hence my bandana, denim shirt and striped dress. The All-Stars have made and appearance once again because they are oh-so-comfy :) I accessorised with a pair of my fave clip-on earrings that you can really see, my tan sack bag and my have $8 glasses/shades that I love so much. I love the shape of the frames and wear them all-da-toiiiiiiime!! My go-to's!

we Mexicans say..."Wella!"

I don't really make "New Years" resolutions but with the closing of 2011 came my regret of not blogging more throughout my final year of college SO i decided that this will definitely take priority in my life this year.  I love memories and I've told myself that there is no neater place to keep them :)

To celebrate the coming of 2012 my sister & I took a baby road trip up the coast to meet my beautiful college sisters who greeted us with epic Mexican hats that we proceeded to wear for the rest of the afternoon and into the night (including a trip to the super market where I was greeting everyone in sight with a cheeful "hola" when my cousin decided to join in saying "WELLA" and we were all like...ummm, yeah no thats wrong! haha) before mine got lost! lol. we drank, took jello shots, played card games, turned "Bop-it" into a drinking game and basically talked smack all arvo before heading to the party we were invited to. We had a whole tub of jello shots that I tried (unsuccessfully) to sell on the train because everyone was either too shy or thought we were weirdos! haha ; had many funtimes with my ladies and here are just a few pics from the night!!

It was a hot day so I wanted to be comfy but bright so I wore this cotton, patterned over-sized tee from k-mart and a simple black tube skirt that I thought would be the most practical & cool after a few! lol.

We had the best time mingling & meeting new people, dancing like crazy monkeys, trying to console the random and totally stressed out dog that we found in the yard, looking for Blake & Jake, pointing fingers at the Leprechaun, dodging the creepy weirdo guy,  bathing in a tub with no water, breaking the swing set, reminding everyone that were not all Tongan lol. & making boss memories welcoming in 2012. I hope your New Years celebrations were filled with as much love, laughter &craziness as mine was!! If I have one piece of advice to leave ya'll with its doing everything with the ones you lurrrrrrrve- makes every moment a BAZILLION times better!! May 2012 bring many more happy memories, health and prosperity to us all :)
